08.08.02 IMAX Retains CAA to Advance Plans to Re-Master Hollywood Films |
(Los Angeles, August 2002) - Advancing its plans to bring major Hollywood films to IMAX(R) theatres, IMAX Corporation (Nasdaq: IMAX; TSX: IMX), the world leader in large-format entertainment technology, has announced that Creative Artists Agency (CAA) will represent the Company in securing new, high-profile Hollywood films to be digitally re-mastered for day-and-date release to the worldwide IMAX theatre network.
"CAA's unparalleled relationships with the studios, directors and performing artists will further the great progress that we've already made to release Hollywood films to IMAX theatres," said IMAX Co-CEOs Richard L. Gelfond and Bradley J. Wechsler. "This new partnership is an important next step to secure event films for simultaneous release to the IMAX network and strategically position IMAX as a new distribution window for upcoming event films."
"Earlier this year, when we first saw test sequences of Apollo 13 digitally re-mastered using IMAX's new technology, we recognized this as an important part of the future film experience," said Richard Lovett, president of CAA. "We believe that this relationship opens up new avenues for a number of our clients who would like to differentiate their films in the marketplace."
"CAA is perfectly situated to represent IMAX's interests in bringing the best in event films to IMAX screens and to giving IMAX moviegoers the best cinematic experience on the planet," said Greg Foster, IMAX's President of Filmed Entertainment. "CAA has already played an integral role in moving our film strategy forward. They were instrumental in helping us secure Apollo 13 as the first-ever 35mm live-action film to be digitally re-mastered for exhibition in IMAX theatres, as well as enlisting Tom Cruise as the narrator of our new hit 3D film SPACE STATION."
IMAX transforms 35mm live-action films through digital re-mastering using IMAX's proprietary, patent pending revolutionary technology known as IMAX(R) DMR(TM) (Digital Re-Mastering). IMAX DMR sharpens and enhances the quality of the 35mm original images and soundtrack which, when transferred into 15/70 format, are transformed into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience.
